Slavery exists in every country of the world, including the United States. In the United States, 1 out of every 5,000 people are held in slavery. The existence of slavery in the United States is largely hidden from the public eye because it is illegal. The public understanding of modern-day slavery has been diminished because the definition of slavery has been changed. Today we call slavery “human trafficking” and “sex trafficking”. Although the definition has changed, the impact is the same.
Today slaves are brought to the United States from all over the world, not just Africa. Some slaves are forced into prostitution, while others are forced into hard labor. Most slaves are brought to the United States at a very young age. In Colorado Springs where On Board With Jesus is headquartered, the average slave is only 12 years old.
